At just 18 years old, Nokutenda Shoriwa is emerging as one of Zimbabwe’s brightest prospects in women’s rugby.
A versatile backline player, she currently plays for FS Raiders, where she continues to impress with her speed, vision, and commitment to the game.
Her rugby journey has already seen her feature for Pitbulls Ladies and she has proudly represented Zimbabwe at junior national levels.

As she gears up for the Nedbank Challenge Cup, Shoriwa is clear about her goals. “My personal expectations are to play my heart out, help my team perform well, and continue growing as a player,” she said.
The tournament presents a key opportunity for players like her to stake their claim for future national call-ups.
Navigating the rugby scene as a young woman hasn’t been without its hurdles. “It’s not easy getting competitive game time,” she explained.
“There are fewer fixtures and limited platforms for women compared to the men’s game. You really have to fight to be seen.”
One such platform was the Harare Province Paramount Garments Under-20 competition, a tournament Shoriwa speaks of fondly. “It was a great experience. The intensity and competition were high, and it helped me develop both mentally and physically.”
Now firmly focused on the future, Shoriwa has her sights set on representing Zimbabwe at senior level. “I want it so badly. I’ve been putting in the work, and I feel ready. Wearing the green and white at senior level would be a dream come true.”

The upcoming Ivory Coast tour, which forms part of the Rugby Africa Division One Cup, could be a turning point. “If I’m selected, it would mean everything,” she said. “It’s a huge opportunity to compete on a continental stage and show that I belong there. It would also give me invaluable experience going forward.”
Driven, grounded, and fiercely passionate about the game, Nokutenda Shoriwa is one of the new faces leading the charge for the future of Zimbabwean women’s rugby.
